When someone you love and trust happens to mention that “You haven’t been working out as much lately,” then you know you’ve been slacking just a little too long. You could shoot the messenger, but really what you need to do is get busy working out again. Take it as a “red flag” that your fitness is slipping and that you may not be looking as good as you can.
Well, this happened to me recently. I didn’t get mad, but I sure plan on getting even (at least even with myself). I know that it’s time to check in with my body and stop making excuses. ”I had company, I had a migraine, I’m going through a divorce, I’m moving, blah blah blah. Well, my body doesn’t know that! Just my mind does, so now that my mind had a “mental check” it’s time to tell my body to get off it’s butt! Here’s a story I’ll share that’s easy to remember: My ex-husband and I were on a cruise with our then 11 & 13 year old boys. My ex suffers from chronic heart disease and was enjoying a delicious decadent dessert when my 11 year old said, “Hey Dad, I thought you were watching your cholesterol.” His father replied, “I am on vacation,” and my son replied, “Well your heart doesn’t know that!”. So there you have it… out of the mouths of babes!
It’s true, your mind can play funny tricks on your workout and eating routine. Your mind is busy being busy, and letting your body just sit there and absorb all the stress, calories, or cholesterol as it may be. So, I recommend letting your mind play a trick on your body that’s good for you. Ask your mind to give your workout routine a “theme” or a “name”. Mine is “I’m a workout dragon!” That means my mind is expecting superior performance from my body and no company, migraines, divorce proceedings, or moving can get in it’s way! No one or nothing gets in the way of a dragon!!!
So what’s your workout theme? Lion? Tiger? or just “Fabulous”?
