Day 3 became a “day of recovery” for me but not for AJ. I have to admit, my professional deadlines and parenting obligations did influence my decision not to workout today, but really the deciding factor was my strong belief in “workout recovery.” I am of the school of thought that after consecutive days of intense workouts, you have to let your body rest so it can repair it’s muscle fibers, build new blood vessels to overstressed areas, and build or maintain bone density. Your body needs a nap so it can regenerate and then take all that hard work and make it count! My analogy is “making a milkshake”. If you add all the right ingredients to a blender, but don’t let the blender do it’s work, it’s just a bunch of ingredients seeping together. Maybe eventually it will taste ok but if you just took that extra step to let the blender do it’s work, voila! the milkshake comes out yummy! So, every 2 days or so, let your body become the blender. Let it mix up all that good stuff you have been putting together and your outcome will be sweet! Honestly people, if you go too hard, too consecutively, too long… you just burn out mentally and physically and you will quit with no milkshake to enjoy.
I had hoped AJ wouldn’t go for a run today so he too could let his body regroup, but he wanted to and I didn’t want to spoil his appetite for exercise. He ran 1/2 of the beach run, but unfortunately it looks like he activated a bit of sciatica. Bummer for him. Now I wish I had insisted he rest. Live and learn people!!!
So, yes, I did all the things a mom needs to do for her kids beginning at the crack of dawn, and an entrepreneur needs to do to keep the money and progress flowing. I turned the blender on and let my dragon sleep and I don’t feel one bit guilty because my milkshake is in the blender! Tomorrow we are going cycling, which is a whole new thing for me, AJ and our dragons.
Work out and rest up people! Your dragon, lion, tiger (whatever) is ready for results.
